The 15th series finished being created in the Spring of 2025.
In the 15th series the 'Rain Paintings' are combined with antique fan pieces, bug pen & ink drawings, and flowers painted on top - inspired by the drops of paint from the 'Rain Painting'.
Laurie Miller’s ‘Rain Paintings’ are a signature series that blend artistic intention with the unpredictable forces of nature. Since 2013, Laurie has created these works outdoors, allowing the rain to interact directly with her canvases. She applies up to forty layers of acrylic and metallic paints, letting the falling rain blend and shape the colors, resulting in unique textures and organic patterns that can never be replicated.
This process embraces chance and spontaneity, making each painting a collaboration between artist and environment. Laurie often enhances these layered backgrounds with additional imagery, creating dynamic pieces that fuse abstraction with expressive detail. The interplay of rain and paint infuses each work with emotion, movement, and a sense of mystery.
Through her Rain Paintings, Laurie explores themes of renewal, transformation, and the interconnectedness of life. Each piece serves as both a visual meditation and a celebration of nature’s role in the creative process, inviting viewers to connect on a deeply emotional level.
